What about now?

Yes, each of you should remain as you were when God called you. 1 Corinthians 7:20

When God calls us into a specific place (or calls us out of a specific place), many times we get on the hot pursuit of the “greater.”

You know what I mean; we want more, need more, see bigger and better for our lives. We build the vision boards and plan our lives towards greater exploits because we know that He has ordained for us to live great and wonderful lives.

But what happens to the “right now?”

Many of us are in a place of “right now” wondering what we should do next, how we’re going to get to these big dreams and goals. Our forward thinking, however, has caused us to lose sight of the “right now.”

We fail to see the great lessons and important work we need to do in the “right now” because we’re so focused on doing “greater.”

We have an opportunity to do God’s work right here — right where you are — to learn valuable lessons that will be required for “greater.” There are people, ministries, schools, community centers, parts of this world who need you right NOW.

Before you make it big. Before you meet your desired level of success. Before alladat.

While in context 1 Corinthians 7:20 is talking about marriage, the message is universal. Paul tells the church of Corinth to focus on where they are right now; don’t become overly concerned becoming something you’re not yet or obtaining a greater name or title for yourself. Focus on the space you’re in now. Learn the concepts and precepts of living for Christ in the now so that you may never, ever become a “slave” to man’s interpretation and timing of success (v. 23).

For the world’s standard and timing of success will never match God’s perfect timing for your life. Ever.

You are not in a race against anyone; walk your life out in His timing. Take the “right now” time to learn, be cultivated, be trained. Intentionally focus your life on His will and He’ll take care of the rest.

The Message Bible puts these thoughts very plainly:

All of you, slave and free both, were once held hostage in a sinful society. Then a huge sum was paid out for your ransom. So please don’t, out of old habit, slip back into being or doing what everyone else tells you. Friends, stay where you were called to be. God is there. Hold the high ground with him at your side.

Staying Planted,
Alisha L.
