This morning I did a study on order and purpose in the bible.
I learned a few things, was reminded of some other things, but what was supernaturally revealed to me (not really, just an observation) is that God has OCD.
Yes, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
He reeeealllly likes to have things in order.
The seasons, day and night, the animal kingdom, the food chain, marriage, birthing of children, business, relationships…
He likes to have things in order.
While many associate having OCD with negative actions, God’s OCD brings perfected blessings to our lives! His desire for us to follow His order in life is why He stresses for us to live in obedience and His perfect will.
So in Isaiah 44:7, God talks about how no one can set the world in order like He can:
And who can proclaim as I do?
Then let him declare it and set it in order for Me…
Cocky, isn’t He? (love it!)
When we do things in the way God has ordered us (by natural law or by specific directions He’s give) NO ONE can destroy it. NO ONE! No one can call us to live a better life than the one he has ordered, set in place for us.
It’s when we do things out of His divine order that we get all jacked up, give room for the enemy to take us and our plans all the way out!
So how does this tie into our God-given purpose? When we are in our purpose, walking in the order and the way He’s ordained, we are charged to uphold His precepts and be steadfast in those things He’s told us to do.
“Did I not proclaim my purposes for you long ago? You are my witness — is there any other God? NO!” — Isaiah 44:8
Those two scriptures tell us that when we are in order and following God’s purpose for our lives we are DIVINELY indestructible.
But here, my friends, is what really speaks to God’s heart for us and why he really loves for us to follow Him:
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He DELIGHTS (is made happy) in every detail of their lives. — Psalm 37:23
God is made HAPPY when He is able to direct our paths, our decisions. In EVERY detail. Job. Love. Money. Everything! He tells us over and over and over and over (sorry, OCD) that obeying Him is the best way to get the best results out of this earthly life.
We should take on a form of OCD in following God. It should be repetitive, constant, an internal and external expression of our obedience to Him.
Good thing God doesn’t need any kind of pill or counseling for his OCD. His obsession with order and purpose gives us the freedom to live freely!
