Surviving “The Bible” Miniseries

I appreciate this review of The History Channel’s Bible Series! Entertainment or not, those who are theologically trained to interpret the bible have work to do!

Every character in The Bible series that aired on the History Channel did not historically look like biblical characters.  Jesus looked like Brad Pitt in Legends of the Fall.  Moses looked like Dumbledore from the Harry Potter series.  I was actually waiting for Moses to use the Elder Wand to free the children of Israel from the Egyptians. Maybe I read my Bible wrong, but I thought the Bible took place in the Middle East, not northern Europe.

It may be because my degrees are in History and Divinity that I had a problem with the History Channel’s portrayal of the Bible.  I also consider myself a film buff.  Knowing that I was going to be watching three of my passions rolled into one avenue, I already understood that I would be watching with a super critical eye.   For me, the series was not only a…
